At the end of September, Dylan Sheridan ’02 traveled to Sparks, Maryland, to coach Team Puerto Rico in the Atlas Cup, a lacrosse sixes play event that brought together the USA, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Haudenosaunee people–Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca and Tuscarora Nations.
“The event carried big symbolic and practical significance for lacrosse,” Sheridan said, “especially in the context of the upcoming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, where the sixes format will debut.”
The Atlas Cup was more than a tournament, it served as a rehearsal for Olympic-caliber play with a focus on:
- Heritage: The Haudenosaunee, the sport’s originators, competing on the international stage and reaffirming lacrosse’s cultural roots and the nation’s talent.
- Growth: Puerto Rico’s inclusion, showing how the game is expanding to new geographies and communities.
- Excellence: North America’s traditional powerhouses, USA and Canada, competing at the highest level of sixes play.
And more, Coach Sheridan reunited with Ty Banks ’23, who made his Team Canada debut and helped secure their win in impressive fashion!
“The Atlas Cup established sixes lacrosse as a legitimate, entertaining and culturally meaningful discipline on the road to LA28,” Sheridan said. “It was a showcase of heritage, progress and Olympic readiness all wrapped into one.”
Congratulations, Coach Sheridan and Ty on your success in the Atlas Cup. Reserve is cheering along your journey to LA28!
