International Student Travel Blogs

This summer, Western Reserve Academy is thrilled to support the return of international travel for our Pioneers with a school trip opportunity to Guatemala through the "Jump the World" program and to Taiwan through the Ellen C. Long Study Abroad (ELISA) program.

Jump the World is a one-to-one exchange program between students from Western Reserve Academy and students in Guatemala. This summer, Paige Dix, Claire Hua and Arsh Goyal from WRA are traveling to Guatemala, where they will live in a homestay, attend classes and become part of a local school community. The trip begins with a week-long community service project. For the next three weeks, students will attend schools alongside their counterpart (brother or sister) in their host families. In the final week, students will have a school vacation and will travel with their host families. They will be traveling with Sherry Chlysta and Emily Thews-Baldridge.

ELISA is a fully-funded summer home stay program of language immersion and cultural enrichment. Ellen C. Long demonstrated a life-long commitment to building bridges among cultures and peoples through her dedication, sensitivity to and appreciation of different languages and cultures. Thanks to the support and the generous donation of Dr. Dixon Long '51, Izzy Haslinger Johnson ’25, Keven Gong ‘25, Theo Woodard ‘25, and Jacob London ’25 are traveling to Taiwan with Judy Chen this summer. They will live and study Mandarin in Soochow University for three weeks and explore other areas outside northern Taiwan during the fourth week.
