Pioneer Cooking Camp visits West Side Market

On Monday, June 26, the Pioneer Cooking Camp, led by WRA’s Executive Chef Ben Baragry traveled to the West Side Market in Cleveland. The field trip, according to Baragry, was meant to show the kids an alternative place where food is purchased other than a more traditional supermarket. A market like the West Side Market, he explained, is where a chef will go to find the freshest ingredients.

The kids interacted with several vendors at the market’s array of stalls. They purchased fresh produce, fish and bread, amongst other items, to use throughout the week in their cooking lessons.

Immediately after their trip to the market, they visited The Center for Technology, Innovation & Creativity, where they started customizing their aprons on the embroidery machine. Since Monday, they have been in the dining hall learning from Baragry and practicing their cooking skills.
