WRA Social Science Department faculty member Dr. Erik Chaput is a frequent contributor to The Providence Journal, and his latest column (co-written with his fellow historian-in-residence Russell J. DeSimone) is a compelling and thought-provoking opinion piece. Plainly titled “RI Teachers in unique position to use new AP course in classroom,” the article addresses this very topic — the many opportunities for educators in the Ocean State to use their local resources as they prepare to introduce the new Advanced Placement African American Studies into their classrooms.

Dr. Chaput and DeSimone ask readers to “not lose faith in education — public or private — to let students sort through our nation’s history and arrive at informed conclusions with the help of dedicated teachers."
