Student Life Office December 29, 2020
To our beloved students of WRA,
It is with wishes of peace, joy and hopefully some relaxation that we reach out to you today to follow up on Mrs. Buck's message about returning to school in person in January. First of all, we can't wait to have you all back on campus!
For those of you who were on campus in August, the January return may feel familiar. At that time, we welcomed students from around the world and kept them safe. We start January with the same goal: to be COVID-19 careful so that we keep our students, faculty/staff and WRA families healthy and safe. We remain hopeful that with consistent and stringent following of our COVID-19 protocols — masking, maintaining physical distance, washing hands and wiping down surfaces — we will be able to eventually allow for more freedom. For now, and in January, we expect every community member to do all that they can do every day to follow the COVID-19 guidelines.
Here's what the beginning of January will look like.
Day Students
Boarding Students
A special note to boarders about Monday, January 4: You will be asked to stay in your dorm room once tested and while awaiting test results. We ask that you limit your activity to your dorm room as much as possible. You may want to bring from home some games, coloring books, a good book to read, and/or load up on those Netflix movies in order to help pass the time. We're hopeful that students will receive test results by the evening of the day they are tested. To-go meals, provided by the dining hall, will be available for you to ensure that you don't go hungry. Ellsworth Dining Hall will not be open for sit down meals on this day. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience on this day. Faculty will be on duty in the dorms during the day on Monday to help supervise.
Students, for four months, you did a remarkable job helping to keep our community healthy and safe by following the protocols. We ask that you keep your eyes on the prize and continue this careful behavior for a few more months. It is only with the help and compliance of each and every one of you that we will continue to limit the spread of COVID-19 on our campus so that we can remain open and learn, live and have fun together in person. Speak with your friends, with your roommate, with those in your dorm hallway. Work together to keep your spirits up and your masks on!
In some ways, January will present some challenges, but none of them are challenges we have not overcome before! The Student Life Office, along with our other departments, your Dorm Heads, the Day Prefects — all of us, in fact — are committed to creating opportunities for fun, festivity and friendship in the New Year. We have some pretty great ideas, and we hope that you are thinking of some things you want to make happen here on campus in 2021. One new initiative is a refurbishment of the Green Key so that you can hang out there during the day or after dinner during these winter months. Stay tuned for more information about that and other exciting things to come on campus in 2021!
We can't wait to have you back on campus and ring in the new year. Until then, take good care, enjoy your family and the little things that this year has taught us to appreciate. We appreciate YOU!
