Dear Pioneer Community,
Happy First Day of School! With our Pioneers back on campus and our Piofars (this is what we're calling our distance learners) re-engaged, I am so grateful for the energy and happiness I felt across campus all day.
I write today about sports. Athletic contests are a central element of the Reserve experience. As many of you know, the State of Ohio, as well as our County of Summit, have been closely considering the most prudent approach to competitive interscholastic sports this season. With many schools and officials in a bit of a scramble, I ask today for your understanding of a brief "time out." Athletes know that success happens over time, not overnight, and we will apply this same measured approach to deciding our path forward this fall.
In the coming weeks, we will fine-tune our plans based on a variety of factors. During the week of September 14, WRA will announce decisions about fall sports. This window of watching and planning gives us four full weeks of school; the opportunity to assess the COVID-19 impact in our region; more time to train with our teams; and the benefit of conversations with other schools about their experiences and plans. If we find it prudent to proceed with competition, this timeframe also provides the opportunity to strategize and implement best protocols, with the safety of your students always paramount.
Thank you, we look forward to sharing updates soon.
Go Pioneers!
