WRA's Track & Field teams continue record-breaking season

Our Pioneer-athletes made Reserve athletic history at the Walsh Jesuit Relays.

Still early in their season, WRA's Track & Field teams are already making history. On Saturday, April 16, the team attended the Walsh Jesuit Relays and endured freezing rain to start the day, only to come out victorious by the time the sun broke through the gloom.

Lea Carino '24, Ky Hau-Golden '25, Jada Kenner '24 and Jordanne Nichols '23 broke a WRA track & field record that has stood since 1986, winning their spring medley relay with the scorching time of 1:54.69 and earning a top 10 spot in Ohio for the event. Congratulations, Pioneers!

Sprint and jump specialist Ky continues to excel in the 100-meter dash, and she made her second finals in a large invitational event this season. In the finals, Ky set a new Personal Record (12.90) and finished in fourth place, with upperclassmen in front of her. With this PR, she hits the standard for the Elite 9th grade 100m at the New Balance Nationals Indoor 2022.

Ky and fellow teammates Maya Baumann '23 and Mia Maze-Ingram '25 took second place in the LJ Relay — and Varsity Coach Erik Chaput gave special congratulations to Mia, who reached success after just two days of practice, and Maya who competed in three meets in just four days!

Coach Chaput was thrilled to share additional praise for our Pioneers, including Jordanne who took 4th place in the open 400-meter dash (her first ever outdoor open 400m) and Elba Heddesheimer '23, who ran her first 800-meter dash on a track with a solid finish.

The Boys Track & Field team made a strong showing at the event as well. Elias Vail '25 ran a great opening 400-meter dash for the season into a strong headwind for the last 120 meters. He placed 9th place, and was the only 9th grader to place in the top ten.

Congratulations to all of our Pioneers who competed — and be sure to come out and support the team this Wednesday, April 20, for our annual Longstreth Relays (our only home meet of the season!)
