Three cheers for another great season and year in WRA athletics.
It was an event for left and right brainers alike as the stats and stories behind WRA spring sports were celebrated at the Spring Athletic Awards on Wednesday afternoon in the Chapel.
Director of Athletics & Afternoon Programs Herb Haller '85 praised student-athletes and coaches for wearing the green and white with great pride and for the time, commitment and loyalty they showed. Coaches extolled the courage and impact of tough competitors. Haller applauded the staying power and mentorship of long-tenured coaches, and the energy and aspiration of newer members of the coaching ranks.
This year, WRA can boast a 62% combined winning percentage for all teams, including the spring sports of baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis, and track and field. Haller also gave special shout outs to the afternoon activities of fencing and eSports.
For the year, 380 Varsity letters were awarded, with 229 different athletes earning Varsity letters, 75 students earning two letters and 37 earning three letters during a single school year.
A not-so-surprising statistic shared was that 50 contests were cancelled this spring due to weather; we almost expect this in Northeast Ohio! What we never can fully expect, but certainly fully appreciate, is the courage, enthusiasm, camaraderie and teamwork that characterize athletics at Reserve. Go Pioneers!
