Yesterday, the WRA Varsity Girls Soccer team capitalized on a dominant display to emerge as winners against the Berea-Midpark Titans. The match was held at home in the WRA Stadium in cold and wet conditions, and the final score was WRA 2, Berea-Midpark 0.
The Pioneers dominated the first half, peppering the opposition goal with 9 first-half shots and forcing several saves, but were disappointed to go into half-time with the score still 0-0. Ky Hau-Golden ‘24 provided the well-deserved breakthrough in the second half. A dramatic moment in the second half saw Alondra Iriarte ‘24 come up with a heroic save of a penalty kick to keep her team in the lead, and then the highly motivated squad went on to add a second with a goal scored by Sierra Shapiro ‘23 that came literally within the final seconds of the game.
Next up: the WRA Girls’ Varsity Soccer team will travel to St. Vincent-St. Mary H.S. for a Thursday evening game on 9/29 at 7:30pm.
