Track & Field Post Impressive Numbers at Mayfield Invitational

More PRs and an abundance of medals highlighted the weekend for the Pioneers.

Rain and high winds did not stop the Pioneers from posting some of their best performances of the 2023 Outdoor Track and Field season. The Pioneers took home several gold medals and a batch of silver medals at the Mayfield Invitational on Friday night. Junior standout sprinter Jada Kenner, the most decorated sprinter in WRA history with 4 school records to her credit thus far, took home the gold in the 400m and helped to propel the 4x400m team to a 3rd place finish at the end of the meet. Senior captain Jordanne Nichols successfully defended her 200m title from last year's Mayfield Invitational, running her best race of the season to take the gold. Future sprint star freshman Makayla Riles posted points for the girls program in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m. Sophomore Sehar Mahesh had a monster 2 second PR in the 200m. Senior Captain Elba Heddesheimer took the bronze in the 800m. Teammate sophomore Addie LeVan was close behind in 5th. Heddesheimer and LeVan teamed up with sophomores Liv Taibon and Islay Moore to take 3rd in the 4x800m. Moore also ran a strong leg on the 4x400m. Despite a bad first exchange, the 4x100m team of Nichols, sophomore Mia Maze-Ingram, junior Lea Carino and Makayla Riles took 2nd in the 4x100m. Maze-Ingram posted points on the board for the Pioneers with her 4th place finish in the long jump. Junior Kylah Wellington posted a solid PR in the discus. Senior captain Allison Rozak took 7th in the shot put and 4th in the discus. Senior jump specialist Kelly Janssen took home silver medals in the HJ and the LJ. Senior captain Jack Colafella had his best race of the season in the 800m. Sophomore Elias Vail took 4th in the 400m, running into a strong headwind. Senior Jayden Gaynor took 4th in the 200m. The boys 4x200m squad of Vail, Gaynor, Janssen and sophomore Tavin Jones posted a blazing 1:35.00 in strong wind to take 2nd overall.

Next up for the Pioneers is the Rollin Waite JV Invitational on May 2nd in the WRA Stadium. Next weekend (May 6) some WRA athletes will travel to Austintown for the Optimist Invite, while several other varsity athletes will head over to Peninsula for the Woodridge Varsity Invitational.
