Spring Athletics Awards Cheer Student-Athletes

Gold Medal Awarded to Ty Banks '23, Headed to Georgetown

Today Western Reserve Academy and Director of Athletics Peter Hutchins hosted the Spring Athletics Awards in the Chapel to honor the many achievements of our talented athletes. The event lauded the hard work, dedication, and passion of our individuals and teams. From early morning practices, to the support of the crowd during rainy spring meets and matches, to big wins, our Pioneers poured their hearts into their respective sports, and it showed.

Mr. Hutchins thanked the many behind-the-scenes and in front of the camera contributors, too, including equipment managers, team managers and the Reserve Sports Network, the student-run broadcasting organization that has been a game changer on campus, sharing events with parents, family and friends watching from all corners of the world.

Awards were bestowed in baseball; esports; boys lacrosse; girls lacrosse; tennis; track & field; boys volleyball and softball. A full list of award recipients can be viewed here

A Gold Medal, the highest athletics honor given at Reserve, was awarded to Senior Ty Banks '23, who will attend Georgetown University in the fall to play Division I lacrosse and continue the path of athlete/student/leader that he cemented during his years at Reserve. Coach Dylan Sheridan '02 said of Ty, “When your best player is also your hardest worker and your leader, you’re going to have a great shot at a winning program. With Ty at the helm, he restored the school’s legacy in lacrosse. I can’t think of a more deserving student athlete.”

Special thanks to our exceptional coaches who not only imparted their knowledge, but also served as mentors and guides. Their unwavering support and commitment to our athletes played a crucial role in their success.

Athletics at Reserve bring us together, teach valuable life lessons and sustain meaningful traditions. We know sports are more than trophies and medals; they are about memories created, friendships formed and personal growth experienced.

As we bid farewell to the school year later this week, we also especially celebrate our seniors. Our hope is that our senior athletes carry the spirit of athleticism, teamwork, and determination into the next chapter of their lives. Congratulations to all award recipients! Your pursuit of excellence and outstanding performances have made Reserve shine.
