Summer Reading

One School, Many Books is WRA’s Required Summer Reading Program. We view our summer reading program as an opportunity to engage in important conversations as a community. As a result, One School, Many Books: 2021 will focus on books relating to various aspects of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. On the first day of school, we will have a special schedule where you will be placed in groups to talk about your selections.

Grade 9

Students in grade 9 are required to read Dear Martin by Nic Stone.

In preparation for the group talk on Dear Martin, we ask that you read the text with a close eye. Think about how the author tells the story, what devices does she employ to engage her reader? What sticks with you as a reader?

Grades 10–PG

Please review this document that includes fifteen linked books. Please choose one. Many of these texts ask you to engage in topics and thus conversations that will be difficult for some, and many of the texts will push you outside of your respective comfort zones. So, spend some time looking over the attached pdf with the various selections.

Use this selection form to declare which book you will read. This form will be open until early August, but don't wait too long to make your choice; some of these books may take a while to get to you, and you should make sure you give yourself the necessary time to read the book in its entirety.
