Adventure Camp
An activity- and enrichment-based kids day camp - and it’s fun!

WRA’s longest standing and best recognized summer program, Adventure Camp, is popular with kids who want to broaden their horizons by trying new things, meeting new people and having fun while participating in developmentally appropriate group activities and enrichment programs on WRA’s historic campus and throughout the region. In addition to traditional games and sports, campers will enjoy arts and crafts, swimming, kayaking, “improv skits,” cooking, fishing, nature hikes, field trips and more. Camp runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and campers enjoy lunch in our campus dining room. Before-care, with breakfast, is available from 7:45 a.m. – 9 a.m. ($50) and after-care is available from 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. ($35).

Western Reserve Academy Cooking Camp
Western Reserve Academy Cooking Camp - led by members of WRA’s culinary team, a group recently featured in Edible Cleveland magazine

Western Reserve Academy Cooking Camp will introduce campers to the pleasure involved with preparing and enjoying real food! The experience will include learning about planning, purchasing and preparation of food for a meal. Campers will learn introductory cooking skills and the importance of basic nutrition. Young chefs will receive an apron with their name on it and a few basic kitchen tools. The week ends with a meal for you and your family prepared by the campers. After-care is available from 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. ($35)

Act Out!
Led by Melanie Patterson, University of California, Irvine, a theater leader with 30 years of experience teaching and directing middle school and teen actors

This is a week filled with acting basics and theater fun. Campers will be immersed in acting through improvisation, mime and scene work. Performing tools and tips will be introduced as well as audition techniques and preparation. Participants will be able to hone their communication and presentation skills while learning to express themselves creatively and confidently. This is a must class for actors who want to light up the stage. After-care is available from 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. ($35)

CODEMOJI Camp - CODE IT (More than Coding)

Does your student love navigating how things work on a computer? CODEMOJ's computer science programs is for 3rd - 5th graders and our mission is simple: teach students to enjoy all things related to coding and the web while building problem solving and creative thinking skills. Our staff of educators deliver clear, entertaining instruction to ensure students have fun while learning complex coding skills using popularized emojis that represent HTM: text - this lowers the barriers to new coders and increases their excitement and understanding of computer science. Students build animations, websites, and video games; explore multiple coding languages; programs robots; create STEM-based projects both on and off line; and are encouraged to share their projects when they get home. Students also work with interactive circuit boards to understand the basics of currents and work with their teacher to build a handful of fun projects. After-care is available from 4 – 5:30 p.m. ($35)

CODEMOJI Camp - Learn. Code. Build

If your older student loves all things related to games, computers and the web LEARN. CODE. BUILD! is the program for them! Students will learn how to build a open-ended projects during this coding program for created for 6th-8th graders. Covered first in this class are programming terms, wireframing, HTML, CSS, JavaScript basics. During the latter part of the program students’ knowledge is put to the test as they each build a project! Plus, we’ll provide follow-up instructions for participants (and parents) so they can continue learning and improving their website, and apps at home. Students will also learn how to program robots and more this is more than just a coding camp on computers. Lunch is provided, and before- and after-care is available.

CODEMOJI Camp - Junior Coding

Your camper will learn the basics of coding and computer science as they are immersed in STEM activities. Students will collaborate to program robots to complete tasks, work with emojis as they dive into the Codemoji platform, and participate in offline unplugged coding activities and games. Throughout the program students will design a website and learn to utilize their newly acquired coding skills to advance through interactive lessons. The Codemoji Coder program will challenge your student as they advance through HTML, CS and JS coding basics and will promote the desire to continue their coding learning outside of the classroom. Chess Camp

The Knight School’s six-time state championship chess program is coming to Western Reserve Academy! Chess camp is a great way to keep the brain sharp during the summer while having a real blast. Chess Camp is a super-fun, high-energy chess experience in which kids ages 6-12 learn new chess tactics each day with fun videos, puzzlers for prizes, colorful tactics bands, hilarious movies, bead tournaments and much more. Laughter, fast-paced games and compelling teaching approaches make this camp the summer’s highlight for the thousands of kids that make up The Knight School’s network of 270 school chess teams. Learn to make, create and innovate as a part of our cutting edge Digital Fabrication Camp in WRA’s remarkable Wang Innovation Center. Students will explore design, 3D scanning, garment and UV printing, vinyl cutting, poster and decal creation, laser and plasma cutting, electronics and more. Led by gifted Program Director Matt Gerber and his team, campers will receive advanced training and instruction, and create several products each day. Lunch is included. Advanced Digital Fabrication camp is designed for those campers who have already attended the Digital Fabrication Program. The advanced camp allows participants to explore more advanced fabrication techniques and applications. It will be an interactive week building upon the skills and techniques already acquired. Campers will spend the week taking their skills to the next level of design and creation learning about electronics, microprocessors, embroidery, sewing, CNC milling, molding and casting, CNC routing, robotics and more. CSI Summer Swim Camp

Run by Cleveland Swim Institute founder, John Collis, this camp offers two swim sessions per day emphasizing training and technique. The schedule includes daily "swim-strength" sessions, stroke clinics, video critiques with collegiate coaches, performance evaluation including video, video of classroom discussion with guest speaker and clinicians on training physiology, and goal-setting sports nutrition and psychology race strategy. Boarding option includes overnight accommodation and three meals per day.

Riflery Camp

Head Coach of the WRA Riflery team, Diccon Ong, will lead this week-long program. Campers will use .177 air rifles in the school's indoor range. Campers will learn gun safety, the basic mechanics of air rifles, and the essential elements of 3-position (prone, standing, kneeling) competitive shooting. In addition, athletes will gain valuable experience in enhancing concentration, self-reflection and patience – essential elements for success in any endeavor! Learn more about the sport that boasts 15 different Olympic events. All equipment and materials are provided by WRA. Foil Fencing Camp

WRA’s fencing coach, Tom Nagy will lead this week long program. Mr. Nagy is a four-year fencing letter winner at Cleveland State University and a member of the Viking team that took fourth place in the NCAA Championship. This program is geared for beginners, but we welcome experienced fencers as well. Mr. Nagy will cover fencing basics like the salute, advance, retreat and lunge. Campers can expect to learn how to hold the foil correctly, move with confidence, proper footwork, balance skills and mental focus. Equipment will be provided. Minimum of six students are needed to run camp.

All Star Lacrosse Camp

Get a fast start on one of America’s most popular sports. Campers will learn about the game, develop as players and build skills. Coached by former professional player and College of Wooster coach, Audi Glass along with Prep-School All-American, highly decorated Denison University player and Kent State University (D1) Assistant Coach, Amanda Glass and their impressive staff, many of whom are former Western Reserve Academy and college players. 216 Wrestling Club Future Champ Technique Camp

Wrestlers will be trained by Club 216 head coach, Fred Lima who wrestled at Iowa and Alan Fried, NCAA Champion for Oklahoma State. They will focus on high level techniques in all three folkstyle positions - leg attacks, escapes, riding and pinning. Coaches Lima and Fried are teacher coaches who utilize a supportive, developmental and fun approach to teaching the sport.

The Western Reserve Academy Tennis Camp combines fun activities and individualized tennis skill instruction for the beginner through experienced player. Each morning session will include stroke of the day instruction, singles and doubles strategies, effective serve technique and a fitness component. The afternoon program will focus on match play and play based drills. Instruction will be led by talented WRA tennis coach David Soldevilla on the ten-court, state-of-the-art athletic facility at Western Reserve Academy. Lunch is included. This action-oriented camp offers an introduction to the exciting game of Ultimate Frisbee, one of the fastest growing team sports in the United States. Campers will learn and play the game of Ultimate and other disc sports, build throwing and catching skills, and learn the fundamentals of offense and defense while getting a lot of exercise! Instructors are experienced Ultimate Frisbee players who have completed the USAUltimate Coaching Development Program.

Prime Skills Camp

The first Prime Skills Camp, an affiliate of the Jay Bilas Skills Camp will take place on the campus of Western Reserve Academy in partnership with Head Start Basketball. Prime Skills Camps offers three days of hard work, intense skills instruction and lessons in how to be a great teammate on and off the court. Prime Skills Camp is a boarding camp, and players and coaches will stay in the dorms on WRA’s campus. Mornings will focus on individual skill development, afternoons will be reserved for break down work in 2-on-2, 3-on-3, 4-on-4 scenarios and the evenings will feature competition in 5-on-5 games. Players will have a minimum 3-1 player to coach ratio and will receive a high level of attention from coaches throughout the week. At the end of camp, five players will be selected to receive invitations to the 2021 Jay Bilas Skills Camp in Charlotte, NC based on their attitude, effort, team play and ability.

A boarding soccer camp for girls

The girls' Elite 11 Soccer Camp is designed for individual skill development. Whether you're a beginning or a varsity-level high school player, this summer soccer camp will provide you with position-specific enhancement as well as individual emphasis that will give you maximum learning during the week.

English Language and Innovation Institute

This program is designed for students who intend to pursue enrollment at an American independent school and for whom English is not their native language. “ELII’s” curriculum emphasizes advanced vocabulary building, reading comprehension, effective study techniques, writing skills and test preparation. The program also enhances American social skill development with off campus field trips, extra-curricular and sporting activities. During the afternoon sessions, students will engage in advanced enrichment opportunities such as coding and instruction time in the award winning Wang Innovation Center (WRA’s makerspace).

CANCELLATION POLICY

Please submit notification of camp withdrawal two (2) weeks or more before the start of camp. Doing so will ensure you are refunded at 75 percent of the cost of camp.

One (1) week before the start of camp will be refunded at 50 percent of the cost of camp.

Less than one (1) week before the start of camp will be refunded at 25 percent of the cost of camp.

No partial weeks will be refunded.
