On Tuesday, May 22, despite the stormy weather that resembled much of this spring season, the WRA community gathered in the Chapel to honor the athletes of the season. The school recognized athletes from seven spring sports programs – girls track & field, boys track & field, boys tennis, softball, girls lacrosse, boys lacrosse and baseball.
Director of Athletics & Afternoon Programs Herb Haller '85 kicked off the event acknowledging all of our 2017-18 student-athletes, coaches, staff and volunteers for the time and effort they devote to our athletic programs.
"Each year I ask that our players, teams and coaches wear the green and white with great pride as you represent Western Reserve Academy. You have done that once again and I applaud all of you for the time, commitment and loyalty you have shown throughout the spring and entire school year," said Haller. "Your energy, enthusiasm, camaraderie and teamwork is essential to our continued development and success. Thank you!"
The 2017-18 season consisted of 387 Varsity letter awards to over 240 athletes, several of whom received multiple Varsity letters.
"It is quite impressive that so many of you contributed significantly enough to earn a varsity letter in at least one of our Varsity programs throughout the school year," Haller commented.
After welcoming everyone and recognizing the efforts of the students, coaches, parents and entire community, 29 spring athletes received awards for most improved, coaches' awards and most valuable players.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, seniors were wished the best of luck in their future endeavors and returning students were encouraged to return ready for the challenges and excitement of the next season as Pioneers.
