WRA wrestlers qualify for 2019 National Prep Wrestling Tournament

The 2019 National Prep Wrestling Tournament takes place on Friday and Saturday, February 22 and 23 at Lehigh University, and this year, six WRA students will represent the Pioneers. Congratulations are in order for the following WRA student-athletes who qualified to complete:

Christopher Yankay '22 - 120 lbs

Manzona Bryant '20 - 145 lbs

Chase Ressler '19 - 170 lbs

Matt Randazzo '20 - 182 lbs

Roman LaBrosse '20 - 220 lbs

Connor Burns '21 - 285 lbs

The athletes qualified for the National Prep Tournament by placing among the top six at the Pennsylvania Independent School State Wrestling Tournament held last weekend. Having six qualifiers is a new level of performance for WRA wrestling.

Head Wrestling Coach and Director of Programs John Gordon shared that National Preps is a very competitive event.

"The two top-ranked teams in the nation, Blair Academy and Wyoming Seminary, will be present," he said. "Of our six qualifiers, five are returning wrestlers. I'm proud of our athletes! In each case, there were times during the season -- including during the qualifying tournament last weekend -- when each of the guys took their lumps and had to persevere to advance."

Through it all, Gordon said, the team remained committed to training, learning and continuous improvement. He went on to add that the team grew up a lot this season.

"Their performance this past weekend is a testament to their growth, resilience and trust in the system," said Gordon. "Whatever the outcome at Lehigh, they are maturing in meaningful ways, will gain invaluable experience and exposure, and continue to be fine ambassadors of WRA. I am proud of them and the program."

Congratulations and good luck!
