Whatever their passions and interests may be — your child is bound to find something amazing this summer at Western Reserve Academy. With 15 new camps added to Summer Programs, WRA is the perfect place for the young athlete, artist, actor, academic, and, of course, anyone interested in having an adventure!
"The 2017 summer offerings at WRA represent the most expansive menu of options that we have ever had," said Director of Programs John Gordon. "We welcome kids from a range of ages, cultures and interests to one campus community for a time of discovery, challenge and fun."
New camps include Digital Fabrication Camp, where students can head into The Center for Technology, Innovation & Creativity and use cutting-edge equipment to create, design, prototype and transform ideas into reality.
The Kelli Smith-Puzo Gold Medal Field Hockey Camp will premier in July, where young field hockey players can improve their skills and learn under the tutelage of two-time Olympian Keli Smith-Puzo.
For those who feel they need a crash course in all things middle school, Mastering Middle School Camp is the place to be. This five-day program equips campers with study skills, test prep, presentation tips — as well as surefire ways to make new friends and excel in a new school.
Pioneer Cooking Camp is for the avid foodie, budding chef or someone who just loves to lend a hand to mom and dad in the kitchen. Campers will follow WRA's Executive Chef Ben Baragry from the Ellsworth Dining Hall to West Side Market, learning food preparation, basic cooking skills, nutrition and more!
There is even a program devoted specifically to those in high school, college and beyond. Western Reserve Academy's Piano Institute brings pianists an extraordinary opportunity to learn from some of the best musicians in the industry. Partnered with Pierre and Sophie van der Westhuizen at the Cleveland International Piano Competition, this program will feature the 2016 winners of the Cleveland International Piano Competition as part of their faculty, including Nikita Mndoyants, Leonardo Colafelice, Dinara Klinton and Georgy Tchaidze.
WRA's Summer Programs will of course continue to offer its beloved summertime staples, such as Adventure Camp and Western Reserve Soccer Academy, which have brought hundreds of kids to campus for many years.
"It has been really cool to see the number of return campers we have, along with the number of camp alums who join us as counselors," said Gordon. "That, I think, speaks volumes about the special, relational nature of the Reserve summer experience."
The new camps join these classic WRA programs to create a robust, diverse and exceptional summer experience.
"At WRA, we challenge our students to have a pioneering spirit, asking them to try new things, develop new skills and learn from all the interesting people around them," said Gordon. "With 15 new program offerings in 2017, and more than 25 overall, our younger, summer Pioneers have an opportunity to embrace that same spirit of discovery in exciting ways."
