WRA Holds On To Beat Shady Side In First Match Since '18

WRA was able to hang on to the one goal lead throughout a very tense and exciting second
half.

The WRA Field Hockey team took on a strong Shady Side Academy team at home on Wed, Sep 21.
This was the first match-up of these two field hockey teams since 2018. Out of the gates, WRA
put a lot of pressure on the solid Shady Side defense but was unable to put anything into the goal
cage.
In the last seconds of the first half, a penalty corner was called against Shady Side. WRA
immediately pulled all its players to the circle. After Shady Side’s goalie stopped an initial shot
on goal, Center Striker Emma Leechalk '24 retrieved the ball off the pads and pushed it across the
circle where it eventually landed on the stick of Right Back Ela Mody '23 who pushed the ball solidly
into the corner of the goal.
WRA was able to hang on to the one goal lead throughout a very tense and exciting second
half. Center back Mya Kenney '24 and Center Midfielder Agustina Leiva '24 served as leaders on
defense and helped to fend off Shady Side’s offensive drives. Additionally, Goalie Gabby
Hrivnak '23 had several saves, and Mody recorded a defensive save.
The WRA Field Hockey team looks forward to a busy end of the week as they host Stow and
Walsh for an 8v8 junior varsity tournament on Friday, then varsity departs for Toledo
early Saturday to take on Maumee Valley and Ottawa Hills.
