On Wednesday, September 14, the WRA Varsity Girls Soccer team emerged from a close first-half contest to run away as comfortable winners against the Laurel Gators. The match was held at home in the WRA Stadium in beautiful, sunny conditions, and the final score was WRA 5, Laurel 0.
Jazi Gonzalez ‘24 opened the scoring late in the first half, capitalizing on an assist from Sierra Shapiro ‘23. Just one minute later, Gonzalez made it a brace for herself with a long-range, arcing strike. Bella Sanders ‘24 added a stunning golazo of her own, and Paris Weaver ‘23 scored with a shot from distance, just minutes before the final whistle. Despite the lopsided score line, Laurel had their share of attacking play, and Alondra Iriarte ‘24 earned an excellent clean sheet for the team, as she made nine saves throughout the match.
Next up: the WRA Varsity Girls Soccer team will travel to Notre Dame Cathedral Latin School for a Saturday kickoff on 9/18 at 12pm.
