Employment: Your Role at Western Reserve Academy

A commitment to our students. The basic requirement of any member of the faculty at Western Reserve Academy is a simple one: a total commitment to the full development of each member of the student body. Your selection as a member of the Academy community is based upon your ability to meet the high standards of the Academy.

We are predominantly a boarding school, and students participate in a wide range of academic and non-academic activities. For this reason, you have responsibilities that extend well beyond the classroom. Such involvement is considered to be as vital as the basic teaching responsibilities of each faculty member.

In general, as a full time faculty member, you will be responsible for (1) teaching four full courses (sections or their equivalent); (2) coaching two seasons (or their equivalent); (3) performing residential duties (or their equivalent); (4) serving as a faculty advisor; (5) advising or supervising a school organization or extracurricular activity; (6) having one or more committee assignments; and (7) other responsibilities as may be assigned to you by the Headmaster or the Dean of Faculty from time to time.

ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary strength of the Academy is its ability to provide outstanding instruction to its students with an emphasis on individual instruction. You are charged with planning, preparing and teaching your classes assigned by your department chair, the Dean of Faculty and the Headmaster.

ADVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
An integral part of your duties involves acting as a faculty advisor for students. As an advisor, you will provide both academic and personal guidance. Frequent meetings between you and your advisees are encouraged so that a high level of trust and communications may be achieved, and so that you can better monitor the academic and personal development of your advisees.

DORMITORY RESPONSIBILITIES
A substantial portion of Academy student life takes place in the dormitory. It is important that each member of the faculty assist each student in this unique type of environment and assist him or her in adjusting to increased freedom and responsibilities each year.

ATHLETICS
We believe that athletics are a major element in the development of students. All members of the faculty will play a role in the athletic program as designed by the Headmaster and Athletic Director.

MENTORING PROGRAM
Each new faculty member to Reserve is assigned to a veteran faculty member who will be helpful in many ways. There are also opportunities during the academic week when all new faculty members will gather and discuss some issues in common.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
The commitment of a member of the Academy faculty must be a total one; one that does not end with the completion of specified responsibilities. For each of us to be successful, and for our institution to be successful, we must involve ourselves in all aspects of campus life.
