Two members of Western Reserve Academy’s Class of 2012 have made commitments to play college football this fall.
Nathan Wirtz and Dallas Gibbons made commitments to attend through a coach-supported early application process. Wirtz plans to attend Alleghany College, while Dallas Gibbons will attend Wabash College.
Wirtz was an offensive lineman for the Pioneers, part of a unit that allowed just nine sacks during the 2011 season, as well as an anchor on the defensive line. He earned the team’s William F. Starn Spirit Award as a senior.
“Nate was the heart and soul of our team, and an extremely dedicated athlete,” said WRA coach Jeff Hildebrand.
Wirtz was also a member of the ice hockey team, where he earned the Andrew Guglielmi ’99 Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication to the WRA hockey program
Allegheny College, located in Meadville, Pa., was 5-5 last season.
Gibbons, led the Pioneers with 56 receptions for 750 yards.
“Dallas was a team captain and also among the leaders in Ohio as a receiver,” Hildebrand said. “Dallas is a tireless worker and a gifted receiver.”
In addition to football, Gibbons also earned a varsity letter in basketball and track as a senior. He earned the track team’s Carl Basnett Award, given by the Class of 1965 to honor the memory of Carl Basnett ’65.
Wabash, located in Crawfordsville, Ind., was 12-1 last season, with its lone loss coming to Mount Union in the Division III playoffs.
