The impact of the Western Reserve Academy Annual Fund cannot be underestimated and is key to the financial stability of WRA. Students and faculty are the ultimate beneficiaries of the Western Reserve Academy Annual Fund. Last year, gifts from alumni, parents and friends provided 8.67% of the school’s operating budget. This sum included $60,256 for classroom instruction, $166,117 for student services, $923,095 for faculty and staff salaries, and $314,287 for student financial aid. It should be noted that without annual fund contributions, WRA would require a new unrestricted endowment of $37.5 million or an additional per student tuition payment of $5,114. The 2011-12 Annual Fund goal is $2 million. Every gift is important to meeting the Annual Fund Goal!
Tuition, the Endowment and the Annual Fund are the three main sources of revenue for WRA. With the current economy, further increases in tuition will substantially decrease the number of families who are willing to pay for an independent boarding school education at WRA and we cannot rely on endowment growth to cover our costs. Consistent contributions to the Annual Fund bridge the gap between the actual cost of educating students at WRA and the revenues from tuition and the endowment. The Annual Fund will allow us to continue to offer the same quality of experiences to students at WRA in our challenging world.
While the Endowment provides 25% of the costs of a WRA education, much of the Endowment is earmarked for very specific purposes. Annual Fund gifts help fund costs that are not covered by the Endowment or tuition.
