Student Advisory Program
The Advisory Program is part of WRA's multi-tiered system of supporting students as the challenge themselves to strive for excellence, live with integrity and act with compassion. There are high expectations for ensuring that students are successful, healthy and productive while at school. At the start of every year, the Deans Office matches new students with a teacher who will become their faculty advisor for their entire WRA career. Each advisor, who is responsible for no more than seven or eight students, serves as their academic supervisor and personal mentor, helping to facilitate their transition to WRA, clarify the school’s goals and expectations for them and provide them with academic counseling or guidance as needed.
Advisors accomplish these goals through one-on-one meetings with their advisees, and through weekly lunches with their full advisory group. This guarantees regular contact with their students and provides each student with a small, supportive community of familiar faces. Advisors also serve as a primary contact for parents, updating them on their child’s progress and growth, and welcoming questions from parents who want to know more about their child’s habits and commitments.
When appropriate, advisors also steer students towards other resources available at WRA, such as Health Services, the Deans Office and the Academic Enrichment Center.
