The Western Reserve Academy football team lost a 40-14 decision to Hawken in its season debut Aug. 24 in Gates Mills.
Pioneers quarterback Austin Petsche completed 22 of 46 passes for 230 yards and one touchdown.
Petsche's favorite target was Johnny Saucier, who caught six passes for 99 yards. Erick Bryant had five receptions for 70 yards.
WRA committed four turnovers.
"We made too many mistakes and lost to a better team," WRA second-year head coach Jeff Hildebrand said. "The Hawken kids and coaching staff did a really nice job.
"We need to reduce our amount of mental mistakes and have better ball security. The physical effort was good, but a huge part of the game is mental. We are resilient and ready to fix the mistakes and prepare well for Trinity."
The Pioneers are set to host Trinity (Garfield Heights) Sept. 1 at 2 p.m.
