On Sunday, October 21, 2007, Music from the Western Reserve's sixth season continues at Hudson's Western Reserve Academy as violinist Liana Gourdjia steps into the spotlight.
At the age of 25, Liana Gourdjia is already on her way to a promising career. Since her solo debut in Moscow as a 13 year old, she has placed in or won a long list of string competitions, including the Tchaikovsky Young Artist Competition, the Corpus Christi International Competition for Piano and Strings, and the Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition. In 2006, Gourdjia received the first place award in the International Violin Competition Sion-Valais in Switzerland. She has performed with several orchestras, including the Lithuanian National Symphony, and has played recitals in both the US and Europe, including a recent one at the Kennedy Center in Washington. Liana Gourdjia graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where her teachers were David and Linda Cerone. She now studies with Jaime Laredo at Indiana University.
Liana Gourdjia's accompanist for this recital, Anita Pontremoli, is active in both instruction and performance. She heads the collaborative piano department at the Cleveland Institute of Music and ENCORE School for Strings. She has performed with many noted artists, including Lynn Harrell, Aaron Rosand, Dale Clevenger, and Arnold Steinhardt.
Liana Gourdjia's recital at Western Reserve Academy begins at 5:00 p.m. in the Academy's historic Chapel. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students.
