Latin National Exam 2007

This year, Reserve’s Latin students joined 134,000 others to participate in the National Latin Exam. The Association ACL/NJCL wrote, “Such participation attests to your own interest in and encouragement of academic excellence, and to efforts of your students themselves.”

The Latin Section at WRA is pleased to recognize students on the National Latin Exam.

Students scoring above the 75th percentile as follows:

 

Gold Summa Cum Laude - Students scoring above the 95th percentile

Silver Maxima Cum Laude - Students scoring from the 85th through the 94th percentile

Magna Cum Laude - Students scoring from the 75th percentile through the 84th percentile

Spanish National Exam 2007

This year, 93,866 students took the National Spanish Examination online.  At Reserve, 98 students took the exam of which 69 earned medals nationally.

 The criteria for the awards are as follows: 

Gold: students scoring at or above the 95th percentile, we had 27 students.

Silver: students scoring from the 85th percentile through the 94th, we had 22 students.

Bronze: students scoring from the 75th percentile through the 84th, we had 21 students.

The distribution by levels was as follows:

Level 1               14 gold              7 silver             6 bronze

Level 2                 7 gold            10 silver             9 bronze 

Level 3                 4 gold              4 silver             5 bronze          

Level 4                 2 gold              1 silver



A Student's Viewpoint on the National Spanish Exam

This year's online version of the National Spanish Examination is much more student-friendly than the standard scantron test. The mouse-activated bubble multiple choice is not only more efficient, but more accurate as well, minimizing the amount of technical error, which might be caused by a scantron glip or an incorrectly filled bubble. I really liked being able to take the proficiency section, the listening and reading, at my own speed, replaying or pausing the voiceovers as I needed. The initial information section also went a lot smoother independently than with a proctor, who needs to go as slow as the slowest person in the room. Best of all, we were able to see our scores less than a second after we submitted our test. Definitely an improvement!
