About this scholarship fundraiser. Established in 2003, the Alumni Association Golf Classic is one of many Reunion Weekend activities for alumni, spouses, family members and friends of WRA. Not your Reunion year? You, your family and friends are still welcome to play. Held at the Country Club of Hudson, over 100 golfers tee off annually to raise funds to benefit the Alumni Association Scholarship.

Since 2005, the Alumni Association has presented a scholarship prize to a junior who will well represent Reserve as a graduate and remain an active and contributing member of the alumni community. The scholarship money is put towards the cost of the student's education at Reserve. The Alumni Association's goal is to endow a full scholarship. Please join us this year and help the Alumni Association move closer to fully funding this scholarship program. Scholarship recipients to date: Piper Beckwith-Collings '06 in 2005, Elizabeth Timmis '07 in 2006 and Gregory Stevenson '08 in 2007.

The winning team and other 2007 Golf Classic highlights. On June 8, 2007, the Western Reserve Academy Alumni Association reached a milestone when it hosted its Golf Classic for the 5th consecutive year.  A crowd of 103 alumni, guests and sponsors converged on The Country Club of Hudson for a day of competitive fun in support of a worthy cause.  With all proceeds from the event directed at endowing the Alumni Association Student Scholarship, the Alumni Association expects to add an estimated $18,000 to the fund account this year!

Although play was interrupted twice due to thunderstorms that rolled through the area, guests had a great time in the four-person scramble tournament.  The foursome of Rob Murray '84, Dave Ducas '84, Phil Kuri '86 and Scott Brubaker '87 celebrated a first place win with the lowest score.  Taking second place was the foursome of Drew McKechnie '00, Bob McKechnie, Kristin Hoover '02 and Keith Hoover.  Third place went to Steven Copperman '88, Mike Ginder '88, Matt Treblas and Joe Stegh.  In addition, golfers also competed for the Longest Drive (Pete Collins '77) and Closest to the Pin (Josh Shelton).  Unfortunately, no one sank a Hole-In-One on the 16th hole to win the free car.  Still, there's always next year.

Golfers also had a chance to bid on an impressive list of items in our Silent Auction including rounds of golf at Muirfield Village, home of the Memorial Tournament, a trio of courses in the Atlanta area and other donations from alumni and local merchants.

The Alumni Association owes a great debt of gratitude to all of our sponsors.  It is sponsor support that has made this tournament possible and the Alumni Association Student Scholarship a reality.  Please help us continue to build the scholarship fund by signing up as a 2008 event sponsor.  For further information, contact Ray Murphy at murphyr@wra.net.
