There are many ways you can make a gift to Western Reserve Academy. Tax laws make certain types of gifts more advantageous than others, and we strongly encourage you to consult with your own financial advisors before finalizing a gift. Such counsel can help you make the largest possible gift to the Academy at the least possible expense.
We will be happy to assist you by providing the information and resources necessary to complete any gift. For more information regarding specific gift arrangements, please contact the Alumni & Development Office at 330.650.9720.
Unrestricted and Restricted Gifts
Unrestricted gifts — An unrestricted gift is the most flexible kind of gift, allowing the Academy to use financial resources where they are most needed.
Restricted gifts — Restricted gifts support specific campaign goals. Donors may target their contributions in ways that reflect their interests, while also addressing important Academy needs. Naming opportunities for endowment or facilities provide opportunities to honor a loved one, classmate or faculty member. Scholarship funds, faculty chairs and campus buildings or rooms are among the most common types of named gifts.
Outright Gifts
Both restricted and unrestricted gifts may take a variety of forms. Sometimes donors use a combination of outright and planned gifts to accomplish their objectives.
Outright gifts — Outright gifts provide immediate financial resources for the Academy. A pledge option allows donors to make ambitious commitments over a period of up to five years, providing the opportunity to achieve philanthropic goals while making payments more manageable. All pledges must be received by June 30, 2008, in order to count toward the campaign total.
Planned Giving
Both restricted and unrestricted gifts may take a variety of forms. Sometimes donors use a combination of outright and planned gifts to accomplish their objectives.
Planned gifts — Planned gifts, or deferred giving, support campaign goals while meeting the financial planning needs of the donor. Planned gifts – a bequest, a charitable gift annuity, a charitable remainder or lead trust, life insurance, real estate or a retirement plan – can be tailored to meet a donor’s specific financial and philanthropic objectives. Contact your financial advisor or the Academy’s Director of Planned Giving (330.650.5885) for further information or assistance.
Options for Giving
Cash — Gifts made by check, wire transfer or credit card are always welcome.
Securities — Increasingly, donors are making gifts using appreciated securities, including stock, bonds and mutual funds. Appreciated assets that have been held more than 12 months present significant tax advantages. Please contact the Alumni & Development Office (330.650.9720) for specific instructions on transferring securities.
Company matching gifts — Many companies match employee contributions to the Academy. Your company’s human resources office can provide further information.
Annual Fund
Each year, gifts to the Annual Fund help bridge the gap between tuition income and the cost of a Reserve education. Throughout the course of The Campaign for Reserve, continued generous support for the Annual Fund is essential to the successful day-to-day operation of the school.
All contributions may qualify for a charitable income tax deduction.
