The Waring Prize is the highest honor that Western Reserve Academy can bestow on a past student of the school. This prize is not just about success, however. As was made clear in the charter for the Waring Prize back in 1972, this prize is awarded to "an alumnus or alumna of Western Reserve Academy who, by his or her way of life and achievements, whether at the beginning, middle or near the end of his career, represents the human and individual values the Academy strives to foster, as well as the many graduates known or unknown who have similarly made their contribution to society." The Waring Prize is about contributing to the world through courage, decisiveness, leadership, and hard work. It is about making something significant happen that impacts lives and that fosters a lasting change.
We're excited that you would like to nominate a candidate for this prestigious award. In making your nomination, please consider the values that Western Reserve Academy tries to instill in its students. As one of the world's leading preparatory schools, WRA is teaching much more than just academics and sports. The school has always had a mission of instilling principles and standards of behavior that command respect, establish trust, and promote compassion and understanding into tomorrow's leaders and visionaries. The caliber and impact of past Waring Prize recipients demonstrates just how successful WRA has been over the years in helping to mold the values of accomplished and humane leaders.
Accordingly, nominees for the Waring Prize should have demonstrated these values through concrete and well-documented accomplishments that are part of the public record, and be role models for today's students in understanding how an individual's service to society can create a lasting legacy. In nominating a candidate for the prize, we ask you to provide some specific information regarding his or her qualifications and the reasons for your nomination, below.
