June 5-7, 2009 marked another successful Reunion Weekend at Western Reserve Academy. Although this particular weekend celebrated those alumni who graduated in a year ending in a 4 or a 9, alumni of all class years were seen at different times around the campus. The weekend's activities not only attracted alumni from the United States, but long distance travelers flew in from places such as London, Spain, Germany and Japan!

Friday kicked off with the 7th Annual Alumni Golf Classic sponsored by the Alumni Association Board. The winning foursome for the day included Rob Murray '84, Phil Kuri '86, Scott Brubaker '87 and Jody Gildersleeve. Golfers and alumni joined together in the evening for the Head of School Reception and Dinner at Ellsworth Dining Hall. Guests were treated to the traditional display of fireworks as well as the music of Moos and Da Sharks, a 50's band that the Class of '59 brought in from Michigan to add some nostalgic flavor to the weekend.

Saturday consisted of many activities including a tribute to former faculty master Bill Appling, wine tasting, campus tour and alumni soccer game. The Chapel Program: An Alumni Celebration of Excellence recognized the accomplishments of several alumni including Sandy Meldrum '70 (Waring Prize Recipient), Bill Shilts '59 (Recipient of the Morley Science Medal) and Trustee Fred Cummings '85 (winner of the Alumni Association Board Award). Recent grad Noel Aker '09 gave a talk on Reserve today and Amina Bennett Nevels '99 who's beautiful voice filled the chapel with her a cappella rendition of "What a Wonderful World."

Saturday evening culminated with individual class dinners. Some classes opted to celebrate at the homes of classmates or at local restaurants while the majority of the alumni spent the evening on campus.

One particular moment during the 50th Reunion celebration summed up the feeling of the weekend in general. While posing for their class photo the photographer commented on how happy the group looked. In response a voice from the group yelled out "And we like each other too!" It was very evident throughout the weekend that indeed those returning to relive memories of their Reserve past have that one very special things in common -- they truly like the people they spent time with during their four years at the school.
