Reserve Hosts English National Lacrosse Team

In July, Reserve was the training and practice venue for the lacrosse team that represented England in the 2006 ILF Warrior World Lacrosse Championship. The championship was played in London, Ont., Canada, between July 13 and July 22.

In addition to hosting the English national team, Reserve Headmaster Henry “Skip” Flanagan served as a coach for the visiting team, which finished fifth among the 21 national teams that competed in the ILF Championship series.

While in Hudson, the English team played a practice game against the Ohio College All-Stars. The All-Stars featured four Reserve alumni: Jason Griffith '03, Anthony Glass '04, Matt Scheel '04 and Max Cutchin '05. You will be able to read more about Reserve’s and Flanagan’s involvement in the fall issue of the Alumni Record.

Homecoming's Many Events Rescheduled for October 7

The 2006 Homecoming Weekend, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 21, has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 7. All alumni are invited to this annual event, which has grown in its offerings and its popularity every year, so mark your calendars to save that date.

This year, Homecoming and Parents’ Weekend will be combined, enabling alumni parents to attend both events and providing a greater menu of activities than ever before.

Activities:

Soccer reunion: There will be a soccer reunion to celebrate 80 years of soccer at Reserve and WRA's 1000th game. See details in a separate news item at the end of this column.

Dads Club Family Party: The traditional Parents’ Weekend Dads Club Family Party and Auction will be on Friday night. It promises great food, great fun and the chance to help the Dads Club maintain its excellent support of student activities and programs.

Saturday picnic: After class visitations on Saturday, parents, students and alumni are invited to the picnic lunch.

Following the lunch, the day’s many athletic contests will begin. They include:

Become a Network Volunteer Today - We Need 500 of You!

Alumni seeking a job or investigating a change in career have been asking to tap into Reserve’s store of experienced graduates for advice. So have college-age alumni. They want guidance on graduate programs to pursue; they want to know whether a particular summer job or internship will advance their job prospects after graduation.

And now you can help. Sign on to be a Career Network volunteer through the WRA Alumni Association-sponsored online Career Network.

Why should you? Here are three good reasons.

1. It’s one of the best ways to give back to your school and share your talent and expertise with fellow alums. If anyone has ever helped you with your career, or if you have benefited from networking, you already appreciate the value of such contacts.

2. For the Network, there is power in numbers. Individuals must act to leverage the amazing power of the Reserve community.

3. Registering to be a Network volunteer takes 10 minutes. Before you register, just jot down a short description of your current job and a few notes on past experience.

Right now we are actively recruiting volunteers. The power of Reserve’s online Career Network will emerge as the service reaches 100 volunteers. That’s our goal for this school year. The longer term goal is to recruit at least 10% of Reserve’s alumni community as Network volunteers. Help us to meet these goals. Volunteer today!

IMPORTANT NOTE: For security reasons, you must be registered in the Online Alumni Directory before you can register to be a Career Network volunteer. The user ID and password you establish when you register in the Online Alumni Directory is the same access information you will use to access the Career Network. Have you forgotten your ID and password? Use this link to request that information.

Celebration of WRA Soccer's 80th Birthday and 1000th Game Set for Homecoming Weekend

Though we tried to contact all former varsity soccer players during the spring, we may have missed a few. So here's a REMINDER that all former varsity soccer players are encouraged to come back to the "home" pitch on Homecoming Weekend to celebrate with former coaches, players and supportive families and friends who have meant so much to the program through the years.

Friday, October 6:

  • Soccer Alumni Social (laughs and libations - off campus)

Saturday, October 7:

  • Morning: alumni soccer games on the pitch (bring your cleats!; games by decades if numbers allow - '50s and '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s
  • Afternoon: 2006-2007 varsity team vs. University School
  • Homecoming reception after all varsity sports contests end
  • Evening: festive banquet off campus with invited guests - FAMILIES WELCOME!

Other details will be forthcoming, but save the dates now and clear the social calendar! We hope that MANY will return to join us in this celebration!
