Reunion 2004 Guest List Continues to Grow

Reunion Weekend 2004 is less than a month away, and plans for a grand celebration are being finalized. The dates are Friday, June 11 through Sunday, June 13. If you are a member of a class ending in 4 or 9, this is your year. If you are a member of any other class year, of course you are also welcome to attend. It's a great time to catch up with friends from your entire Reserve era.

In addition to the all-classes dinner on Friday evening, activities include the Murdough Athletic Center dedication, a retirement tribute to John Breuker and special awards ceremonies in the Chapel on Saturday morning. A picnic lunch, alumni athletic contests and class dinners follow. For a complete schedule of events, view this detailed schedule.

Morgan Hall Scheduled to Open in July

While the spectacular new Murdough Athletic Center has been well-publicized, another new building has also been rising on the Reserve campus. Burton D. Morgan Hall, located on the site of the former tennis courts behind Ellsworth Hall, will open in July.

The 18,500-square-foot brick building will house the headmaster's office, a board room, a new student health center and psychologist's office, a classroom and offices for college guidance and alumni and development staff.

Morgan Hall was funded through a grant from the Burton D. Morgan Foundation of Akron. The Foundation was established in 1967. Mr. Morgan, an entrepreneur and long-time Hudson resident, died in 2003. It had been his dream to establish a significant building on the Western Reserve Academy campus. For more information about Burton D. Morgan Hall, refer to this WRA website news release.

Without Reserve - Last Call for Essay Submissions

The June 30 deadline to submit essays about your experience at Reserve is also fast approaching. Thirty essays will be selected for publication in a book that will cover life at Reserve through 1982. The project is chaired by Jim Gramentine '52.

All aspects of Reserve life are fair game, Jim says. So if you wish to profile a favorite faculty member, celebrate an academic or athletic success, or reminisce about dorm life, you are encouraged to submit an essay for consideration. Here are some additional essay suggestions (pdf file). Contact Jim for a short spec sheet explaining how to submit an article. Jim can be reached at 262-241-9317 or gramentine@aol.com.
