Musical
performances and recitals captivate our community and illuminate the
Academy's artistic richness. Music students perform in instrumental
and vocal groups, compete and perform locally and internationally
and study music theory and history. Here is a partial listing of groups that offer a range of creative opportunities:
The Academy Choir
performs music from a variety of styles and periods. The Choir presents
an array of concerts, including the Midwinter Madrigal Feaste, Vespers,
traditional choral concerts and major works with the Chamber Strings.
Symphonic Winds provides an opportunity for woodwind, brass and percussion players to perform traditional concert band literature and transcriptions.
Reserve Chamber Strings
is a group of string musicians who perform music in a variety of
styles and settings.
Chamber Ensemble is
a select instrumental group specializing in Renaissance and Baroque music.
Reserve Jazz Project is a contemporary jazz group that
performs at numerous school and community events.
Selections from a recent concert included "Stompin' at the Savoy" and "Night
Train."
unReserved and the Reservations are a cappella groups
specializing in jazz and contemporary music.
Music Program Highlights:
- Historic Hayden Hall houses the music department and features
six practice rooms, two large rehearsal rooms, a recital room,
music classrooms, five grand pianos, two harpsichords, drum sets
and electronic studio equipment.
- Chamber music and solo recital facilities are located in the
Chapel and include a Holtkamp pipe organ and a Steinway grand
piano.
- Recent choir and jazz band trips have included: Neustadt, Germany; Prague and Vienna;
and China.
- Reserve students are members of Cleveland and Akron youth orchestras
and choirs, as well as all-state ensembles.
