They also spent summers living in houses in Paris and the islands of Naxos and Crete, both in Greece.
In 1975, Mr. Davis spent his summer sabbatical traveling and backpacking around the world, visiting India, Thailand, Hong Kong and Japan, before returning to Istanbul.
In 1977, Mr. Davis returned to Ohio and joined the faculty at Western Reserve Academy, where he has served as head coach of the girls volleyball team for 23 years, boys basketball coach for 11 years and girls basketball coach for seven years. Most recently, Mr. Davis spent three weeks in the spring of 2004 traveling in Peru with language department faculty master Seņor Fraser and five students.
With their children Beth '84, Tom Jr. '87 and Jill '88 now grown, Davis and his wife enjoy their role as grandparents of seven grandchildren.
