A
strong, traditional college preparatory curriculum. At the
heart of our academic program is a strong, traditional college preparatory
curriculum. Within that traditional structure, however, we are constantly
reviewing our curriculum and thoughtfully updating both our methods
and our course content when appropriate. Ongoing dialogue among Reserve's
faculty members can lead to changes in current courses and textbooks,
as well as the addition of new courses.
Recent course additions: Over the last few years, several
exciting new classes have been added to our list of course offerings.
Here are some recent examples:
Biotechnology: This is an addition to topics in life
science options. A half-credit course for juniors and seniors, this
class covers basic methods in biotechnology for the manipulation
of nucleic acids. Emphasis is placed on topics concerning techniques
used in recombinant DNA technology, including PCR, restriction digests,
mapping, cloning, forensics, and bioethics.
Mandarin Chinese II: With the success of Mandarin Chinese
I, the language department has added a level II course.
AP Art History: This is a cross-cultural survey of art
from the dawn of civilization to the present time. Painting, sculpture,
architecture and decorative art will be examined with an emphasis
not only on the work of art, but on the role of the artist, the
audience and the time period in which the work was produced.
