Language
summer study program. The Ellen C. Long InterCultural Study Abroad
(ELISA) program is named in honor of the late Ellen C. Long, who demonstrated
a life-long commitment to building bridges among cultures and peoples
through her dedication, sensitivity to, and appreciation of different
languages and cultures. ELISA is a fully funded home-stay academic
program of language immersion and cultural enrichment.
The program is intended primarily for Western Reserve Academy sophomores
who have successfully completed the second year of a language program
and who have best exemplified the spirit of Ellen C. Long through
their performance, effort and keen interest in the language and culture.
ELISA has taken students to Costa Rica, France, Rome and Germany.
Established in 2001, the program now has over 45 Scholars - more than half of whom have received college credits for their participation in
ELISA.
ELISA's most recent trip includes Dr. Ralf Borrmann traveling to Germany with the ELISA students. While there, they kept in touch with family and friends by posting a blog. Read more of their experience here.
